Here are some of my fav tutorials that basically cover everything I'm about to say:
Layer Tutorial: [link] Textures: [link] Curves and Adjustment Layers: [link]

So, if you have PhotoShop, first open two documents, the texture image, and the the second image you wish to apply the texture to.
Restore down the documents so you can view them side by side in PS.
Click on the texture image so it is selected.
Next, in the layers palette (on my computer it's on the far right middle of the screen) click the layer of the texture and drag and drop it onto the other image.
Now you should see that you are selected on the image to be texturized and it has two layers in the layers palette, with the texture on top.
In the layers palette while having the texture layer selected, proceed to play with the little drop down menu that currently says "normal" (these are called blend modes) and play with Opacity drop down menu in layers palette.

That's the basics.

You can further edit the texture yourself, turn it green or pink by going to the toolbars and going to Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation or Image>Adjustments>Curves
You can even duplicate the texture layer and apply combinations of stuff, just mess with it untill you find something you like. Heck use a couple different textures! :D

Have fun and feel free to ask me questions!
